The Research Program at the CMCVAMC supports over 280 active research projects (clinical, translational, and basic science) conducted by ~110 principal investigators—majority with dual faculty appointment between CMCVAMC and University of Pennsylvania (Penn), the primary academic affiliate located directly across the street.  CMCVAMC research focuses on improving Veterans’ healthcare and outcomes through research innovations from bench to bedside and back and in support of key VHA organizational goals.

As of 2026, over 21,000 Veterans have enrolled in actively ongoing clinical research at the CMCVAMC.

CMCVAMC Research partners with the Philadelphia Research Education Founcation (PREF) which administers non-VA funding for VA investigators.
